In the framework of the ASEM Aquaculture Platform, we strive at enabling the dialogue between the Asian and European aquaculture sector. In this context we have launched the initiative to start with a series of videoconference debates on selected issues of common interest between Asian and European keyplayers in the industry. As a try-out a first debate was held on Friday, Oct 14, 2011, between:

  • Patrick Sorgeloos, coordinator of the ASEM Aquaculture Platform and Board member of EATIP (European Aquaculture Technology & Innovation Platform)
  • Jean Dhont, Secretary to the ASEM Aquaculture Platform
  • Dr. Hao, director of RIA2 (Research Institute for Aquaculture n°2 – Ho Chi Minh City
  • Mr Nguyen Van Hoa, Director General of SaigonFood SCP
  • Mrs. Tho Thu Thuong LAM, deputy general secretary of Vietnamese Association of Seafood Exporters & Producers

The debate covered perceived threats of the Vietnamese aquaculture sector for Europe, more specifically the pangasius industry, and opportunities for the European industry to participate in the Vietnamese growing aquaculture sector. With this and following debates we hope to provoke many reactions and stimulate a lively online discussion!
